This morning we added the new 32x10G port Juniper Switch donated by Cologix into our virtual chassis, no problems were encountered. For testing purposes I've put one of the spare 10G SFP+ modules that Hoyos Consulting had donated in port 2/0/31. If you want to supply BIRD magic to do that, it would be appreciated. Some areas identified already as sticking points have been 32-bit AS's do need to be supported (We do have at least one member with a 32-bit AS). Otherwise, it looks like BIRD should be able to do it. We are running a fairly up-to-date version. BGP communities on Route Servers

Hi folks, Some time ago, I recall a discussion and/or email thread about BGP action communities on the route servers (i.e.: don’t advertise to certain peers, prepends, etc). Are these in place, and if so, documented anywhere? If not, could I volunteer some cycles to get in place? I looked through the archives a bit, and poked on the website, but didn’t see anything. I'm looking for some input/consensus on what we should post on the website. Keeping in mind that by "website", I'm thinking "publicly available". We don't have any sort of logins on the website, nor am I volunteering to go down that rabbit hole. 1) Do we want the approved minutes on the website? If so, I have UG 17 & UG 18, but if Shaun, Jay, etc. have older ones handy, I'll put those up too. 2) Do we want the _proposed_ minutes on the website? 3) Do we want the attendance list on the website? 4) Would you prefer the original file formats (.docx, .xlsx) or is it important that I convert them to HTML? 5) The website currently has a zip file with the articles of incorporation, etc. from 2012. It's not linked from anywhere, though. Delete it or link it? 6) Do we want the updated articles/bylaws, etc. on the website? If so, I'll need a copy. -- Richard

Currently the cacti graph data is all physically stored in Minnetonka in the US Internet data center, where the server lives. We have a dedicated VM instance currently for the MICE cacti server. This server (rrd files, mysql data, etc) is backed up to our own internal server backup system. Adding additional MICE services to this VM are definitely acceptable: rancid, syslog, etc. if so requested by MICE. This is perhaps getting deeper into implementation design than is appropriate at this point in the discussion but I suggest syslog data be sent and stored locally to the exchange to minimize the potential for data loss in the event of a network issue. VM donation- change control/graph data backup

Hi folks, One of the things that was discussed in the meeting yesterday as change control and config backups. Perhaps along those same lines, we should think about also backing up the graph data somewhere. I’m not sure where any of this data physically lives right now, but perhaps it would make sense to put somewhere *other* than the 511 bldg. I’d like to offer up a VM donation located in Madison, WI to at least run RANCID to grab config backups of the IX switches, as well as a backup target for any data (graphs, route-server config, etc). Effort involved should be minimal, but we’d happily take point on getting RANCID set up and configured as well, and sending diffs to the technical committee, as well as whomever else might see value in seeing config changes happen (perhaps a list?) Member SLA's

A discussion during the meeting today surrounded a third party maintenance organization, "the SLA vendor," that would accept payment from "Behemoth, Inc." to fulfill Behemoth's SLA (24x7 support, MTTR, etc...). It is established, and I agree that the SLA relationship occurs exclusively between Behemoth and the SLA vendor, and that Behemoth has no higher precedence on the exchange than anyone else. Behemoth is just another port on the switch. However, the SLA vendor would require management access to the IXP equipment to support its SLA, and that is where my concern is. If the SLA vendor is under contract to make Behemoth happy, they may choose to make configuration changes that prioritize their SLA agreement without consideration for the other members in the exchange. e.g., "What if I shut these other ports down to see if it fixes Behemoth's problem?" or, "We just brought on a new MICE member today. Maybe they screwed something up. I'll shut their session down just to see if it affected Behemoth..." We need to thoroughly trust the SLA vendor. What about rights and responsibilities? What penalties will the SLA vendor face if they mangle something for the sake of their contract with Behemoth, Inc., regardless if it nefarious or not? Posting MICE Meeting Materials

I have observed other organizations successfully utilize their website for tracking and posting meeting agendas and meeting meetings. A full blown CMS with revisions/history or a simple flat list or table of URLs can work very well. I suggest something similar be considered for MICE either as a replacement of email or as complement to email. Having a central location makes it consistent and straight forward to retrieve any desired document, current or past. This becomes even more relevant to those that are more recently joining MICE who did not receive the previous emails and so have to dig scrape through mailing list archives if they wish to review and understand the history of MICE. I personally also like that it provides a subtle jab against SMTP from subjugating all of our file transfer methods.
