Agenda Item for MICE UG 34

by David Farmer

COVID-19 Planning If/when there is an outbreak of COVID-19 in the Twin Cities or greater region serviced by MICE are there any policies the MICE community wants to implement? For example, a daytime change freeze, especially given the expected increase in the prevalence of remote work or remote teaching as a response to an outbreak. Cologix: Coronavirus Policy Statement https://cologix.box.com/s/obl0s8todzc7q8ctlnkj4pymyqf2gdni University of Minnesota: Health Alert: Coronavirus (COVID-19) https://safe-campus.umn.edu/public-health-alerts Minnesota Department of Health: Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) https://www.health.state.mn.us/diseases/coronavirus/index.html Also, many of you service K12, other colleges, local or regional government agencies that you may want to reach out to and help coordinate their remote work or remote teaching responses to an outbreak. For example at the University of Washington in Seattle: Starting Monday, March 9, classes will no longer be meeting in person. For the remainder of the quarter, instructors are asked to conduct classes and/or exams remotely, as possible, until the quarter concludes on March 20. https://www.washington.edu/teaching/topics/teaching-and-learning-when-class… Thanks -- =============================================== David Farmer Email:farmer@umn.edu Networking & Telecommunication Services Office of Information Technology University of Minnesota 2218 University Ave SE Phone: 612-626-0815 Minneapolis, MN 55414-3029 Cell: 612-812-9952 ===============================================

Meeting Agenda Item

by Jeremy Lumby

With the upcoming MICE meeting I would like to put something on the agenda for discussion. It is a hot topic, however I would like to propose what I hope would be a small/easy tweak (famous last words). It seems like our port fees are a bit out of date. In general I think 1G and 100G are fine where they are, I would like to revisit pricing on multiple 10G ports. Originally the second port was made more expensive to push upgrades to 40/100G ports because of a lack of 10G ports. With so many people adopting 100G, I feel we have sufficient 10G capacity that the second 10G port should cost the same $250 as the original port. Possibly there should still be a higher price after the 3rd port since at that point they could move to a 40G QSFP port.
