NANOG Socializing

by AnthonyAnderberg＠nuvera.net

Following up on our discussion of upper-midwest themed ideas for NANOG socializing, if curling doesn’t work out there are a number of places that do axe throwing now - not strictly Minnesotan but at least in the right direction for theming... as long as there is lots of buffalo plaid attire to set the right mood. Additionally on the stereotypically-midwestern food front I’ve found two places that serve tator-tot hotdish. https://www.crookedpint.com/downtown-minneapolis/ https://www.straydogmpls.com/ Cheers, anthony

This also brings to light the fact that it’s always a good idea to have >1 upstream transit provider. If you’re on MICE, I’m sure there are plenty of folks who would sell transit over the IX as a backup option. > On Jul 22, 2021, at 12:45 AM, Darin Steffl <darin.steffl(a)mnwifi.com> wrote: > > I totally understand it's not a planned outage. I totally understand it's not a planned outage. That still doesn't make this hurt any less. I'm holding my transit provider, HE, accountable in hopes they'll hold their fiber wave providers accountable or add a new one that can do better. This is being actively worked on. Understand this was obviously not a planned outage... Rochester Hurricane Electric

by Darin Steffl

At 10:02pm, HE lost multiple waves feeding their Rochester POP again. This is the 3rd major outage event in July. The POP is now running on only one circuit and is congested running at 100% capacity so speeds for us and other customers are bottlenecked. I encourage anyone with circuits at Rochester to email noc(a)he.net and ask them to resolve these continued issues by bringing in another circuit that is redundant to their current ones. This is the second of two congestion events and the worst was when they went down completely when all 3-4 paths were cut or down from maintenance in early July. I have been very happy with HE up until now but 3 major events in less than a month does not inspire confidence. I have reported each issue and they respond it's fiber cuts or maintenance causing it and to wait it out. Each time, I've requested they work with some other fiber providers to procure a new circuit taking a different path. -- Darin Steffl Minnesota WiFi www.mnwifi.com 507-634-WiFi Like us on Facebook <http://www.facebook.com/minnesotawifi>
