FYI: Twin Ports Internet Exchange

by Steve Howard

Hello, FYI: Paul Bunyan Communications has “seeded” a new internet exchange in Duluth. The Twin Ports Internet Exchange is located in the Missabe Building in downtown Duluth. It is across from the Board of Trade and CenturyLink and a few hundred feet southwest of Citon. The exchange is new and currently has three members. I doubt that this will have much impact on MICE, but I wanted to let everyone know that it is out there. If you are in the area, please consider connecting! I can measure the hosts talking to the route reflectors, although not any private bi-lateral peering others have setup. Of the 26 active talkers on the MICE route-reflectors right at this moment, only 3 are using only the old IP addresses and not pinging for the new addresses. Furthermore, we're down to 10 sessions announcing only the old next-hop IP address. They have not yet changed their BGP announcements to set the new next-hop IP addressing. But that still is 62% of members that have completed the renumbering phase that we are currently in. So thank you to all those that have. It would be best for those 10 still on the old next-hop to get their BGP updated to announce their new next-hop IP address, as the next phase of the renumbering project is only a month away. Then, members will start removing the old range from their configs, and the people who haven't switched yet will have reachability problems getting to those that are following the schedule. Again, here is the cutover schedule that was emailed out: Addition of Address Secondary: before 10/1/2012 New Prefix Announcements: after 10/1/2012 Final use of old IP address next-hop: before 11/30/2012 Removal of old IP address range: after 12/1/2012 Project End: 12/31/2012 Thanks! -- Doug McIntyre <merlyn(a)iphouse.net> -- ipHouse/Goldengate/Bitstream/ProNS -- Network Engineer/Provisioning/Jack of all Trades ######################################################################## To unsubscribe from the MICE-DISCUSS list, click the following link: http://lists.iphouse.net/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=MICE-DISCUSS&A=1 ######################################################################## To unsubscribe from the MICE-DISCUSS list, click the following link: http://lists.iphouse.net/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=MICE-DISCUSS&A=1

I would hope someone more knowledgeable than I will be available to represent MICE during the peering BoF, but if you guys want me to do so, tell me what you want said. I'll be there anyway. by Koch, Andrew

I will be in Dallas next week for NANOG. I see there are a few other names on the attendee list that are MICE participants. Make sure to say hello, especially if you haven't yet renumbered your peering session and want confirm it is up after you make the change -- nudge, nudge. Is anyone planning to represent MICE during the Peering Track? There has typically be a few minutes for IXes to provide updates on goings-on. Might be a good time to put our name out there and show an example of what community supported peering can accomplish. I'd be willing to do so, unless Jay or someone else already has cared for this. If you would like for me to do this, can someone share an editable copy of the MICE presentation? by Yeung, Kams

Hi All MICE members, Following the announcement of MICE re-numbering plan, we're going to change our peering IP addresses at MICE to: IPv4: 206.108.255.84 IPv6: 2001:504:27::51CC:0:1 Please note that there will be a short traffic interruption when we change our interface IP and we plan to make the change on coming Thursday 18th Oct at 11am-12noon UTC. If you've already peered with Akamai, please setup new peering sessions with our new IP addresses. If you haven't peer with Akamai and would like to, please send an email to peering(a)akamai.com<mailto:peering@akamai.com> We'll remove the peering sessions on our old IP addresses by end of this year. Re: ASN Traffic Analysis/Tracking/Graphing Tool(s)?

by Anthony Anderberg

I assume it's a NetFlow/IPFIX/sFlow system, which is the only thing I've seen that would do that sort of thing. I've never tried such things on Internet traffic, most tools I've seen track host to host "conversations" which wouldn't scale well but tracking by AS IP ranges would be reasonable. It would be a neat addition to our toolbox. Dave Plonka and other folks over at the University of Wisconsin have done a lot of cool things over the years. http://www.eng.wiscnet.net/stats/ https://stats.net.wisc.edu/ http://net.doit.wisc.edu/~plonka/ Anthony Anderberg Sr. Systems Analyst 320-234-5239 anthonyanderberg(a)nu-telecom.net ######################################################################## To unsubscribe from the MICE-DISCUSS list, click the following link: http://lists.iphouse.net/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=MICE-DISCUSS&A=1
