If it's creating issues for other members, it's time to take action until the 2 new 10G's are in place. What are our options? Remove from the route server? Ask large users to take one for the team and use their own transit for awhile? Google claiming their magic sauce should spread the load around if congestion, but that doesn’t seem to be happening. We’ve got few tickets open. One caveat, is that HE.net appears to be providing transit to 36040 there, so if you’re a direct/indirect customer or peer of HE.net (which you appear to be via CNS, and I’m guessing via MICE too) they are advertising your prefixes to 36040 anyway. -- Andrew Hoyos hoyosa(a)gmail.com

I’d agree with this as well. This is a relatively low risk upgrade, and don’t see the need to wait or have a third route server. They haven't fundementally changed anything, just added on new attributes. Large Communities has already rolled out in most hardware's code, even if the RFC just came out, they've already been doing it in some fashion for a while. https://labs.ripe.net/Members/emileaben/large-bgp-communities-largely-accep… As somebody was discussing with me, there are several ways of doing setup with them (especially in the Cisco universe), and the BIRD documentation has absolutely zero info on doing any of it right now. BGP Large Communities

I just did a quick packet capture, and it is all Google traffic headed for Nextera. Nextera had fixed their issue around 3 this past afternoon, however it looks like it has re-occurred. The issue is two fold. Nextera's interface has an issue, and has gone down. Google's BGP session with them is stuck in established, so they continue to send traffic towards a down interface. Since the MAC of Nextera's interface has timed out of MICE's switches, the traffic is being flooded to all ports. I am adding Nextera, and Google to this. 8am 10x Route Server Traffic Increase?

Noticed at 8am this morning, traffic to the MICE route servers has gone from it's usual ~60k bi-directional traffic, to a sustained 800k-1000k of mostly traffic out to both route server ports. Might be nothing. Might be something (misconfigured?) ~Matthew
