also add "app updates" to the pile. not sure whether all of these are triggered by IOS 6, but a bunch of apps have failed after trying to do their downloads. the "big" Apple ones failed first, the dozen or so "little" ones are coming up on the hit parade now and they're failing one by one. however i think the bottleneck is at the App Store end. are they using Akamai? i'm routing through MICE. looking back at the downloads across my router, the iOS upgrade looks to be about 400 mB, the total of the app updates is is about 300 mB and counting and they're all failing. so it'll likely start over again when it tries the next time. Its, iOS6 upgrades for all the iPads and older iPhones. I did my iPad this afternoon, will do my iPhone 4s in a couple days after I know things don't go to hell on my iPad. FYI, the Twin Cities Campus Wifi network went from about 1G before noon to 1.75G just after the noon hour, those bits we just flying through the air. 750Mb of iOS6, all the cool kids have got to have it first. :) On 9/19/12 17:39 CDT, Darin Steffl wrote: > Launch of the iPhone 5 but that should have iOS6 preloaded so the only > increase in demand would be new app downloads and people trying > everything out, correct? > > On Wed, Sep 19, 2012 at 5:09 PM, Hannigan, Martin <marty(a)akamai.com > <mailto:marty@akamai.com>> wrote: > > On 9/19/12 4:34 PM, "Mike Horwath" <drechsau(a)IPHOUSE.NET > <mailto:drechsau@IPHOUSE.NET>> wrote: > > > On Wed, Sep 19, 2012 at 03:08:57PM -0400, Hannigan, Martin wrote: > >> The power of iOS compels you... > > > > ^^ > > > > Wait until Friday... > > > What happens on Friday? > > Please do not say apocalypse. Launch of the iPhone 5 but that should have iOS6 preloaded so the only increase in demand would be new app downloads and people trying everything out, correct? We at about 5G on the GigaPOP Akamai node too. Looks like we started sucking it from the MICE Akamai node and then our load moved to our node and MICE dropped a bit. At least that is how I interpret what I see in the graphs. https://perfsonar.northernlights.gigapop.net/gui/cacti/graph.php?action=vie… Note that Graph is in MBytes not Mbits.
