At the peak traffic levels (~9.75G) the main MICE switch was showing egress queue drops so that link is definitely constraining full use of the exchange. Moving the GigaPoP and Hurricane's links to the main switch seems like the cleanest technical solution now that we've got plenty of 10G interfaces on the main switch. I see the link from the Akamai cluster was above 9.5G too. It's possible that could be the next bottleneck for full utilization of the exchange (and of Akamai's cluster). We certainly know that there will be more iOS upgrades in the future. It looks like Akamai is climbing up to just about 7Gbps peaks during normal times, which should probably be a trigger to get dual 10G to them.. Besides the large flow of Akamai->Gigapop/State of MN, it looks just like going from Akamai's spikes, that the next biggest consumers all around of Akamai output is about 600-700Mbps all on the main switch, unless that ~2Gbps spike out to HE was related to Akamai traffic. I don't think HE is too big a factor, but Gigapop & Akamai should probably live on one switch, and we should talk to Akamai to double up the connection. -- Doug McIntyre <merlyn@iphouse.net> -- ipHouse/Goldengate/Bitstream/ProNS -- Network Engineer/Provisioning/Jack of all Trades ######################################################################## To unsubscribe from the MICE-DISCUSS list, click the following link: http://lists.iphouse.net/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=MICE-DISCUSS&A=1

It seems to me like it'd make more sense to have the big networks at the main switch, since then the connection to CNS only needs to support the bandwidth needs of CNS and others on that switch. Thus, for now, the single 10Gig between the CNS switch and main switch should be fine.
Can Akamai connect to both switches at a 10Gig level? Perhaps that would be easier than moving anybody?
If Akamai is pushing over 10 Gbps, then it seems like the answer is 2 connections (link agg or not, depending on their setup) to the main switch. -- Richard ######################################################################## To unsubscribe from the MICE-DISCUSS list, click the following link: http://lists.iphouse.net/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=MICE-DISCUSS&A=1

iOS update releases will do that to ya'... -----Original Message----- From: MICE Discuss [mailto:MICE-DISCUSS@LISTS.IPHOUSE.NET] On Behalf Of Jay Hanke Sent: Wednesday, September 18, 2013 2:06 PM To: MICE-DISCUSS@LISTS.IPHOUSE.NET Subject: [MICE-DISCUSS] MICE Congestion Issues There appears to be some intermittent congestion issues on MICE right now between the Main switch and the CNS remote switch. We may need to move a link (or two) to the main switch. -- Jay Hanke CTO, CCIE #19093 Mankato Networks LLC PO Box 54 619 S Front St Mankato, MN 56001-3838 Google 530-618-2398 jayhanke@mankatonetworks.net http://www.mankatonetworks.com http://www.neutralpath.net ######################################################################## To unsubscribe from the MICE-DISCUSS list, click the following link: http://lists.iphouse.net/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=MICE-DISCUSS&A=1 ######################################################################## To unsubscribe from the MICE-DISCUSS list, click the following link: http://lists.iphouse.net/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=MICE-DISCUSS&A=1
