While I haven’t gotten that specific email from them, I’ve gotten several Telegeography emails since 2012. They are referenced by Light Reading Daily quite a bit. They *seem* to be a legit research firm contracted by multiple companies. The Amazon / TNF partnership is a real deal….and MICE needs to be prepared for a potential uptick in traffic on Thursdays. I talked to the company deploying the solution a couple of days ago. This would be a good time to get any transport upgrades going. They didn't indicate that this was confidential, nor do we have an NDA, so... This is a snippet of the information. CDN Partners 32 Prime Video uses multiple CDN partners to deliver our live content. We deploy a predetermined configuration giving weights to 33 each of the CDNs based on their reported capacity, but the actual live streams delivery is determined by performance. We work 34 with our ISP partners to validate the available capacity so that we do not create undue stress on the ISP network during peak 35 events.
The use of multiple CDNs with flexible weights provides us the ability to dynamically shift traffic in case of performance 36 degradation, or outages within a single CDN. 37 The table below summarizes the CDN partners we plan to use (subject to adjustment), and the function and protocol supported 38 by each CDN. The actual traffic load on each CDN partner is based on their performance and available capacity.

Has anyone else gotten an email like this?
On the surface it seems legit, and I always like the opportunity to talk about MICE, but I’m not sure how I feel about sharing such info...

Hi David and Anthony,
I am a telecoms analyst with TeleGeography in Washington, DC. We have been contracted by Amazon Prime Video (APV) to survey ISPs across the country in preparation for Prime Video’s exclusive presentation of NFL Thursday Night Football (TNF) starting with the 2022 NFL season.
The attached letter from Amazon Prime Video provides more detail about their network planning initiative.
To help avoid congestion on your network during upcoming games, Amazon is asking us to query you so that they may better understand your network point(s) of contact, service coverage area, CDN provider(s), IP Transit provider(s), etc.
Are you the correct contact person within your network operations team to respond to these questions? If not, can you please direct me to the right person within your network operations team?
If you have any questions, feel free to contact me via email or let me know if you would like to set up a call with me.
Thank you so much for your cooperation.

FWIW, I reached out to a contact with Amazon Prime about the TeleGeography survey and got the following response: ===== Thanks for letting me know about the MICE-DISCUSS discussion of Thursday Night Football. Yes, Prime Video has contracted TeleGeography to survey a group of ISPs including some MICE participants. Prime Video is working with AWS and a number of CDN partners to acquire edge capacity for Thursday Night Football. We are trying to understand from the ISP perspective how those CDNs deliver traffic to ISP customers in an effort to serve traffic as efficiently as possible and ensure a quality customer experience. Any ISP that want to validate a contact from TeleGeograpy or any other contact related to Prime Video can reach us via the alias primevideo-isp-us@amazon.com. This survey only covers a subset of US ASNs, so networks that were not surveyed should feel free to reach out to us and we can provide additional information regarding our plans for Thursday Night Football. ==== I don't have any visibility into who reads the primevideo-isp-us@amazon.com alias so no idea whether it is a useful path for following up on peering or not. My guess is that the regional alias listed in peeringDB, peering-amer@amazon.com is the best route. I have been told by a couple folks reasonably close to the peering team at Amazon that they realize that they have sucked at communication and hope to suck less based on comments from 3 individuals over the last 9 months or so. Definitely legit and definitely worth pursuing additional connectivity with Amazon and CDNs that Amazon will use to distribute their NFL streaming content. We have peering active with Amazon at four IX locations (including MICE) and are trying to get some PNIs with them now too. https://aws.amazon.com/peering/locations/ This page lists Cologix Minneapolis as a site where interconnection can happen. If you have a lot of eyeballs on your network, you should definitely pursue adding/augmenting connectivity to Amazon. ________________________________ From: MICE Discuss <MICE-DISCUSS@LISTS.IPHOUSE.NET> on behalf of Steve Savoy <stevesavoy@WCTATEL.COM> Sent: Tuesday, January 18, 2022 8:55 AM To: MICE-DISCUSS@LISTS.IPHOUSE.NET Subject: Re: [MICE-DISCUSS] FW: Thursday Night Football from Amazon Prime Video - Network Questionnaire Thanks Jeremy!
