Being that there is a possibility that the line card would not recover from a restart, I am working with Dave @ the UofM to have a spare available in the event that the card fails to restart. I plan on blocking BGP to all ports on the card before restarting the card. Based on the current state of the card, I am unsure that it will block BGP properly. I plan on restarting the card tomorrow at 4PM CDT. In the past I have noticed that the 100G cards take a long time to boot up, so I would anticipate a minimum of 15 minutes of downtime if everything goes perfectly. I'd like to try the modified ordering again. The idea here is to group business (official reports and things that could involve a motion/vote) before open discussion. This way, people who are not interested in the discussion can leave earlier if they wish, confident that they won't miss an official motion/vote. By shortening the "mandatory" part of the meeting, this may make the meetings more accessible. I'd like to give this a try for a couple meetings and see what people think. MICE 2019 Board Election

The MICE board consists of three directors with staggered 3-year terms. One position is up for election each year at our fall meeting. This year's fall meeting, UG 33, will be held on October 16 at the 511 Building. The current seat up for election is the one that I hold. At this time, the board would like to open nominations. As this is an "away" meeting, I intend to skip the repeat old business items. We can pick those up in October. As far as I know, we have no other technical committee report this meeting; if anyone is planning on giving a technical committee report, please let me know. Based on needing 7 days of major maintenance notice, and a request to complete before MLK day it looks like Friday 1/18/2019 at 2PM CST will be the best time to complete the maintenance. The new card requires a switch OS upgrade. Based on an Arista recommendation, I will be upgrading to 4.20.11M prior to the card replacement. This will cause a total traffic disruption on the MICE core switch. Prior to the maintenance I will be blocking BGP on all ports of the core switch to allow traffic to gracefully reroute. If you choose to shutdown BGP on your own prior to the maintenance, please leave your interface enabled so that link can be verified after the maintenance completes. UG 29 Meeting & Election

The MICE UG 29 meeting will be held Wednesday, October 10, 3:00 pm, at the 511 Building Cafeteria, 11th Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN. The agenda and draft UG 28 minutes are attached. The remote conferencing will be the same as before: 952-562-5400 passcode MICE (6423). At this meeting, we will be holding an election for a board seat. The board consists of three seats with staggered terms, such that one seat comes up for re-election each year (at the fall meeting). This year, Reid's seat is up for election. Reid _is_ running for re-election. If anyone else is interested in running, please nominate yourself. Voting will be done in person. If you will not be attending in person, you must designate a proxy, in advance, in writing. The bylaws state that you send that to the Chief Manager (me, Richard Laager), and electronic means are acceptable.
