We at about 5G on the GigaPOP Akamai node too. Looks like we started sucking it from the MICE Akamai node and then our load moved to our node and MICE dropped a bit. At least that is how I interpret what I see in the graphs. https://perfsonar.northernlights.gigapop.net/gui/cacti/graph.php?action=view&local_graph_id=91&rra_id=all Note that Graph is in MBytes not Mbits. Its, iOS6 upgrades for all the iPads and older iPhones. I did my iPad this afternoon, will do my iPhone 4s in a couple days after I know things don't go to hell on my iPad. FYI, the Twin Cities Campus Wifi network went from about 1G before noon to 1.75G just after the noon hour, those bits we just flying through the air. 750Mb of iOS6, all the cool kids have got to have it first. :) On 9/19/12 17:39 CDT, Darin Steffl wrote:

also add "app updates" to the pile. not sure whether all of these are triggered by IOS 6, but a bunch of apps have failed after trying to do their downloads. the "big" Apple ones failed first, the dozen or so "little" ones are coming up on the hit parade now and they're failing one by one. however i think the bottleneck is at the App Store end. are they using Akamai? i'm routing through MICE. looking back at the downloads across my router, the iOS upgrade looks to be about 400 mB, the total of the app updates is is about 300 mB and counting and they're all failing. so it'll likely start over again when it tries the next time. App store content is coming through Akamai, but the failures I'm getting seem to be coming from an akamaiedge device. (which I thought was more just a proxy through to Apple rather than CDN, don't know where the problem may be). Doing some SSL traces of what my iPhone is doing... Specificly, https://su.itunes.apple.com/ is timing out in the SSL handshake during the failures. The HTTPS connection failed out for SSL: Received close_notify during handshake The actual App content for what I upgraded came from http://a1128.phobos.apple.com/ http://a1746.phobos.apple.com/ which are Akamai CDN, which hit the MICE Akamai cluster. I read the list. If I'm not traveling, something I am doing quite a bit recently e.g I'm in Amsterdam as we speak attending the RIPE meeting, I can usually respond rapidly. We don't have the infrastructure for SSL at MICE/Cologix and also not at most of the on-net systems some of you have hence it's off-net. If you want to send me the IP address that you resolve for that host and some demonstrative traceroutes, I'm check into it. Best, -M<
