Hello, We are thinking about purchasing a Cisco Catalyst 3560-E 3560E-12D switch for the fiber switch for the MICE project. It has 12 x 10Gig ports. The 10 Gig ports support the TwinGig adapter which can be used to convert a 10Gig port to 2 x 1Gig (SFP). That should give us plenty of fiber connection options (for now). We use these at various locations and they have worked out pretty well (other than the silly 1000 multicast route limitation). Any thoughts or concerns with this switch? Thanks, Steve ######################################################################## To unsubscribe from the MICE-DISCUSS list, click the following link: http://lists.iphouse.net/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=MICE-DISCUSS&A=1

In the initial discussions the connection process has been laid out as the connecting party would provide the appropriate optic for interconnection. For a GE link on that switch it may require two optics the carrier optic and the SFP themselves. Would the carrier modules be provided or would the participants need to provide those? jay ######################################################################## To unsubscribe from the MICE-DISCUSS list, click the following link: http://lists.iphouse.net/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=MICE-DISCUSS&A=1
CNS would provide the SFPs for the Gig connections. However, we would ask the participants who request 10Gig to provide the X2 optics. We'll provide 10Gig modules for CNS and the State of Minnesota. I'm not sure what you mean by the "carrier optic"? Do you mean the cross-connect from FWR? If so, we would expect the participant to provide that. Or, do you mean the connection to the copper MICE switch? Thanks, Steve On 8/9/2010 10:00 AM, Jay Hanke wrote:

I was referring to the X2 SFP Carrier module that gets installed with the two SFP ports. I didn't think about the connection to the copper MICE switch but that is a good point as well. What are your thoughts on the MICE x-conn? jay ######################################################################## To unsubscribe from the MICE-DISCUSS list, click the following link: http://lists.iphouse.net/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=MICE-DISCUSS&A=1
CNS will provide the TwinGig "carrier" modules. I hadn't given the cross-connect much thought. I suspect that CNS would be willing to pay for one cross connect. That seems like it would be fair since everybody else has to pay for a cross connect also. Does that model of copper switch support a small number of fiber connections so that we can use fiber to connect to it? Thanks, Steve On 8/9/2010 10:45 AM, Jay Hanke wrote:

I'm not sure that the make and model of the switch in the core has been 100% determined. I think all of the options had a couple of fiber ports available. There were a couple of questions on required sup cards in the 4500 for 10G and also on the physical size of the 4500. ######################################################################## To unsubscribe from the MICE-DISCUSS list, click the following link: http://lists.iphouse.net/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=MICE-DISCUSS&A=1
