Akamai is planning to migrate a migration of their MICE peering sessions on Friday July 5 at 1300 central time. Can we get a volunteer to be available to assist with route server/switch troubleshooting if necessary? Looks like overall Akamai traffic is lower than before. Post holiday blues or is there to be expected lower traffic trends on the replacement system? Since it sounded like it was going to be more capacity I expected to see larger throughput numbers. Does it go through some sort of burn-in process? ________________________________________ From: MICE Discuss [MICE-DISCUSS@LISTS.IPHOUSE.NET] on behalf of Doug McIntyre [merlyn@IPHOUSE.NET] Sent: Wednesday, July 03, 2013 5:46 PM To: MICE-DISCUSS@LISTS.IPHOUSE.NET Subject: Re: [MICE-DISCUSS] Akamai Upgrade Notification On Wed, Jul 03, 2013 at 04:10:24PM -0500, Jay Hanke wrote:

I noticed the reduced levels across the board. It looks like a couple of the large networks are way, way down in traffic the past couple of weeks even before the Akamai upgrade. On Mon, Jul 8, 2013 at 11:31 AM, Justin Krejci <JKrejci@usinternet.com> wrote:

The way Akamai distributes traffic is rather complicated. Sometimes traffic won't shift back after an event until the node it shifted to is under stress. Given the general mid-summer lull, traffic levels may take a while to shift back. A big Apple iOS release, or other internet-wide event, will fix things quick. :) FYI, the GigaPOP doesn't start ramping back up until mid-august when a few schools start, and won't be back to full load until after Labor Day when the U of M and most K12s in Minnesota start. All; Actually, it's much simpler in this case. Once everything in the new system is configured correctly in our back end (happening now), instead of peer being served elsewhere traffic should shift back to the NAP instance. Give us 24 hours. I think this is beyond just Akamai migration and good weather. Some of the individual member traffic has swung by almost two orders of magnitude. I think we have several members that either have messed up announcements to MICE or have shifted their traffic elsewhere. On Mon, Jul 8, 2013 at 1:56 PM, Hannigan, Martin <marty@akamai.com> wrote:

We're a very high percentage of all traffic at the MICE. This change does not surprise me in the context of our work to correct some additional configuration for the new service. Best, -M< On Jul 8, 2013, at 3:33 PM, Jay Hanke <jayhanke@MANKATONETWORKS.NET> wrote:
