I can help with those tasks, although if the servers are big know that I have puny arms. :-) What kind of plugs (volt/amp) do those PDUs need to be? I've got a couple 10 plug 110V/20A 1U horizontal units in need of a good home, but perhaps we want 208V. Jay: Do we have an ETA on that router? We would need two of them. 10 Servers, 2 switches, 1 (or 2) router (13 so far) ######################################################################## To unsubscribe from the MICE-DISCUSS list, click the following link: http://lists.iphouse.net/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=MICE-DISCUSS&A=1
If the servers are using NEMA 5-20P plugs (20A), we should make sure that we are not overloading any of the PDUs based on the number of servers and their actual load. 20P plugs are one horizontal and one vertical. If they have two vertical prongs, then they are NEMA 5-15P plugs which are much more likely on servers that are not drawing very high amperages. The servers are all 5-15P. The outlet above the rack is a 20A twist lock so we'll need an adapter. Folks, We'd prefer that none of our equipment be modified without consultation of our deployment engineer responsible for this deployment. I'm sure that we'll be able to accommodate whatever environment that we need to and rapidly. I don't think anyone said anything about modifying your equipment, Marty. Ideally, the PDUs that provide the NEMA 5-20R or 5-15R receptacles in the rack should have the NEMA L5-20P on their input cord. Then, all that remains is to make sure that the total load being connected to each PDU does not exceed 18A max or 15A continuous. (You should always run a circuit with 25% continuous headroom and 10% max draw headroom in order to allow for line losses, etc.). If a new PDU needs to be purchased anyway... I suspect the Akamai servers have IEC inputs. It might be worth considering a PDU with IEC connectors on the output side. This could provide enough outputs in 1U vs needing 2U for two PDUs. Disclaimer: I haven't seen the rack, so this is just a general comment to consider. If you do this, make sure you mount the strain reliefs on the PDUs and cable-tie the IEC plugs into the sockets. My experience with IEC PDUs has been generally positive, so long as you do this. If you don't, you are just asking for power issues as cables fall out (or partially out) of the PDUs. Thanks, I sent along the thread for him to take a look and prompted him to respond. If we need to modify the strips or anything of ours facing the infrastructure we would appreciate a heads up. Our documentation is fairly meticulous and we like to keep as-builts. We're well aware of all of the requirements to occupy all sorts of datacenters globally and will be happy to support the most cost effective implementation possible. I don't think that we're too far off from turning up. I'll be posting an "on" notice as soon as we get cleared from deployment.
