Do I remember correctly that in the early days, Akamai did not want to be fed across the exchange?  Am I mistaken, or has something changed?  I assumed this was the reason for the direct fiber cross connect to USI.

You would allow the akamai block out to your upstreams.

I think the balancing magic would be to have several carriers open up 1 upstream spreading the load.
