PeeringDB Audit Emails
by Jay Hanke Nov. 18, 2020

Nov. 18, 2020

I've gotten several emails from MICE members about IX-F export issues on PeeringDB. MICE provides a list of port/peering information to PeeringDB in JSON format and they started auditing against what users have entered into the site. The export is generated from our IXP Manager platform we deployed a couple months ago. The most common mismatch is the user not having the IPv6 address loaded in PeeringDB. MICE allocates an IPv6 address with every IPv4 allocation. [insert ipv6 pitch here] Members on the Zayo Remote switch in Belle Plaine are currently not currently included in the export. There is an issue with loading the ports into IXP manager and we need an admin at Zayo to make a couple of routing/snmp changes. All of the other switches were completed and loaded several months ago. If someone has a good contact at Zayo for this please let me know. -- Jay Hanke, President South Front Networks jayhanke(a)southfront.io Phone 612-204-0000

IPv6 BGP Peering to Netflix bouncing 60+ days
by Jesse Reed Nov. 18, 2020

Nov. 18, 2020

All: We have been tracking our IPv6 peering via our MICE path to Netflix and noticed it bouncing consistently since at least September (probably longer). All other peerings on this path (both v4 and v6) have been stable and are not experiencing these drops. Is anyone else in the group experiencing similar drops to their IPv6 only peerings w/Netflix? The peer that we see this occurring w/is: 2001:504:27::b5a:0:1 Thanks so much ahead of time, Jesse

Internet Weather Report: Apple iOS14 releases today

As I'm sure most of you are aware, but just in case anyone misses it; Apple is expected to release iOS 14, iPadOS 14, watchOS 14, and tvOS 14, today at approximately noon central time. In past years, major iOS releases have caused a significant increase in traffic, and since Apple is now peering at MICE, I expect a significant bump in traffic on MICE as well this afternoon. MICE Filtering Project Update
by Jay Hanke Aug. 10, 2020

Aug. 10, 2020

MICE has deployed an instance of IXP manager to act as a source for automatically generating the route server configurations and peers as well as an additional route server to test the configurations. This will include an AS-SET record of all the networks connected to the MICE route servers. The new portal is available at https://ixpmgr.micemn.net/ The new bird2 route server (RS3) has been attached to the South Front Networks remote switch in Albert Lea. There are a small number of test networks attached and exchanging routes. The new route server is strict filtering IRR and dropping invalid RPKI announcements. RS3 is available for testing IRR and RPKI but is not considered production at this time. OAuth authentication has been enabled on the MICE IXP Manager to allow users to log in with their PeeringDB login credentials. Upon a successful login to the MICE IXP Manager, please email peering(a)micemn.net so we can update your account to be a customer administrator. We ask that each network log in and update their information. In particular- -IPv4/IPv6 AS-SET and routing registry source -Max Prefix -Billing information -Anything else that is incorrect, much of the information was pulled from PeeringDB. If your network doesn't have an updated PeeringDB record, please create one at https://peeringdb.com If your network would like to test their announcements on RS3, Please email peering(a)micemn.net for session information. ttps://www.landolakesinc.com/Press/News/American-Connection-Project-Broadba… <https://www.landolakesinc.com/Press/News/American-Connection-Project-Broadb…> http://americanconnectionproject.com WASHINGTON (July 8, 2020) – Today, 49 organizations spanning multiple industries announced they have joined forces as part of a new coalition dedicated to helping close America’s digital divide. Convened by farmer-owned cooperative Land O’Lakes, Inc., the newly formed American Connection Project Broadband Coalition (ACPBC or “Coalition”) will advocate for public and private sector investment to bring high-speed internet infrastructure to rural areas, in addition to advocating for policies and contributing their own resources to facilitate remote education, health and mental health services, job opportunities and more, with the goal of connecting and lifting up all American communities through access to modern digital technology. The Coalition is continually adding members who share a desire to connect the country. Fiber Cut?
by Ben Wiechman June 30, 2020

June 30, 2020

Is anyone riding the Zayo fiber toward Omaha? We're seeing what appears to be a fiber cut about 35,000' west/south of Fremont toward Omaha. Does anyone know of anything that might be happening in that area? IRR Filtering
by Richard Laager June 25, 2020

June 25, 2020

Context: Hurricane Electric is now doing IRR filtering now. My question isn't specific to HE's filtering, but is more about what the best practices are. I'm looking for clue, on or off list, about whether my AS should have an aut-num object. We already have an as-set object listing our AS as well as those of our transit customers. This as-set's name is listed in PeeringDB. We also already have a route-set object containing route objects for each of our prefixes. I've looked at some other networks and this approach (list an as-set in PeeringDB) seems to be the common case. I am only aware of a couple networks who are using an aut-num object. I'm cool with creating an aut-num object, but how much do I really need to fill in? That is, do I need to have import/export statements for literally every AS I peer with, or can I just use "from ANY accept ANY" and "to ANY announce AS-WIKTEL"? I don't want to create and have to maintain an aut-num that is more complex than necessary. I also don't want to break working traffic with peers who might pick up that aut-num object automatically. If it matters, I use the ARIN IRR. I was previously using email templates but would intend to switch (which I understand is permanent) to the web interface on my next modification. -- Richard
