SIX Lowers Fees

I feel SIX is like a big brother that MICE looks up to so I would like to point out that SIX is lowering their port fees due to their success of membership growth. What a good problem, we're taking in so much money we'd like to drop our fees significantly. https://www.seattleix.net/pr20160930 As the MICE fee structure is still not implemented or even decided yet, I'd like to hit the beehive a little and see if there is any progress to that end. I am sure that MICE as a non non-profit could still take in money and then also spend that money without much challenge to avoid any serious taxation concerns, assuming the non-profit work continues to stall for more months or years (unless someone wants to share good news in this regard). Can the board set a goal or target for us to strive towards as an organization? Maybe we need a little tyranny to get things going in this regard? This can has been kicked down the road so many times, it's not even recognizable as a can anymore. :) Food for thought.

BFD support on BGP sessions

Topical to today's issues, WiscNet (and likely others) actively utilize BFD on EBGP peering sessions across peering fabric on various IX's where possible. This helps by detecting issues across layer2 paths without having to wait for the BGP hold time to expire. If anyone would like to enable BFD on our direct sessions, please reach out to us at peering(a)wiscnet.net, or to me directly. EX4200 (1G Switch) Packet Loss -> 10G Participants

Greetings, I wanted to see if anyone here has any thoughts on a small amount (<1%) of packet loss I've been trying to chase down, specific to the MICE EX4200 switch. Aitech/AS13746 has a 1G copper port on the EX4200 switch. It seems that we're seeing a small amount of outbound packet loss (1G to 10G) going participants outside of the EX4200 switch. I might expect this going from 10G to 1G (inbound for us), but it's the opposite where we see the problem: 1G to 10G participants. Doug at ipHouse (ge-1/0/3 on the EX4200) fired up iperf and we did some testing. They're in the same situation: Loss leaving the EX4200. Specifically, I was testing over to US Internet (xe-0/0/14) but seeing it via Onvoy as well. The iperf test I was running was UDP, bandwidth of 69000, and packet size of 172, running in both directions. Essentially--emulating a G.711 SIP call (which is how I noticed the loss). I tested with no loss in both directions within the EX4200. Doug mentioned: >I pulled the VC chassis stats, but it has nothing for drops or re-transmits for it. Maybe some of our Juniper-centric members have suggestions? It's quite possible it's always been like this-- the loss is small enough that's managed to evade monitoring. I suspect everyone on the EX4200 is affected. ~Matthew

I have completed the maintenance of moving everyone off of the old 4200, and onto the new one. Please let me know if you have any issues, I will be staying around 511 for a little while in the event that you do. I pinged each interface IP as I moved it to verify it pinged, then dropped, and then picked back up again once it was in the new switch. All, Attached is the UG 21 Agenda for tomorrow's meeting. I've also attached the UG 20 minutes for your review prior to the meeting tomorrow. I also have a request. I'm looking for a volunteer to take minutes on behalf of the board for this meeting as I will be unable to attend. We had an unexpected death this weekend of a long-term Arvig employee and it's having a great impact on my team. I need to be at our locations this week to be part of the support and recovery process. I appreciate your understanding in this matter and would not, normally, miss a meeting as important as this. As an FYI, I've communicated this to the board and am working on sharing all relevant files (to include the non-profit information) to the board for access. We probably would have still made it without Yahoo. I think their growth has been slowed a little bit since they are bilateral only and I don't think that everyone has gotten around to setting up their bgp sessions. I wonder if it is worth posting invitations like theirs to the announce list since many of the network admins at the eyeball networks don't follow the discuss list so that they can keep the chatter in their inboxes lower. I just wanted to say congrats to everyone. I believe for the first time MICE broke the 100G mark I show the high traffic level as 104G just about 1/2 hour ago. I am very excited knowing that there are many others in the process of upgrading their connection, and newly connecting that should make this number continue to grow quickly in the very near future. IPv6 usage

It appears the JunOS is able to break out the amount of IPv6 (https://www.juniper.net/documentation/en_US/junos16.1/topics/reference/comm…) on an interface. Does the EX4200 also support the IP MIB (https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc4293#section-3.2.3)? If so, it would be great to graph the amount and percentage of IPv6 traffic on most, if not all, interfaces. Frank
